What is a good site to download Kindle books?

Obviously, I know I can buy them from Amazon. I was wondering if there was any site (even something like Limewire) that they could be downloaded for free or purchased at lower prices. I have a Kindle, so making sure they are formatted for that product is necessary.
I did know about project Gutenburg and the Kindle stores…I’m looking more for some place other than the Kindle store to download current books.
